Nationwide Staffing and Recruiting Franchise Seeking Excellent Leaders in Pursuit of Higher Education
ATLANTA – Are you a student looking for financial help pursuing your dream of higher education? Apply for Spherion Staffing and Recruiting’s (Spherion) Sandy Mazur Excellence in Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship is open to high school graduates of any age with a track record of leadership, academic excellence, and a passion for serving others. Spherion, whose franchise community funds each $3,000 award, is accepting applications online now through May 31.
Founded in honor of former President Sandy Mazur, who served an 18-year tenure at Spherion, the scholarship honors her significant contributions to the company. It was established by the Spherion franchise community to support and recognize students of all ages who are seeking higher education and demonstrate the qualities that Mazur embodied. Her passion to make a difference in the lives of others inspires the teams at hundreds of local Spherion offices nationwide to serve their local communities in positive ways.
This year’s application is open to those who are seeking higher education, including college, technical school or skilled training programs. To qualify, applicants must hold a GPA of 2.5 or above, be pursuing a continuing education program, and must reside in a county with a Spherion office. Applicants’ financial need will also be considered.
“I am grateful to be part of a scholarship program that has continued to award deserving students for the past five years,” said Mazur. “Spherion’s dedication to giving back to the communities they serve continues to amaze me. Each year, I am incredibly inspired by the applicants. Good luck to all who apply this year!”
Since launching the scholarship in 2020, Spherion has awarded more than $26,000 to 10 students demonstrating excellence in academic leadership and community involvement. The 2023 Sandy Mazur scholarship recipients were Amari Johnson, Ella Riddle, and Jocelyn Stopka. Spherion’s scholarship committee selected these winners based on their embodiment of the characteristics of leadership, excellence, and passion that distinguished Mazur’s legacy at Spherion.
“I am proud to be a part of a community that champions our former and future leaders,” said Kathy George, Spherion’s executive vice president. “Our team always enjoys investing in younger leaders in the community and is thrilled to grow this scholarship year after year.”
The Spherion franchise community, led by Beth DeLaney and Michael Chalmers, coordinates the online application with Ohio-based nonprofit The Richland County Foundation, which disburses grants for charitable organizations. The application asks entrants to share examples of their community service involvement and how they “pay it forward”. With names and locations removed, Spherion’s scholarship selection committee will review applications and select the winner(s) based on merit.
