1. Safely performs Laboratory tests according to prescribed standards to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid or gaseous materials and substances for purposes such as quality control, process control, product development, or determining conformity to specifications.
2. Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as analytical balance, electronic balances, Ro-tap sieve shaker, volt-ohm meter, muffle oven, agitators, moisture meter, viscometer, sulfur analyzer and other equipment as instructed by immediate supervisor.
3. Accurately tests materials such as anthracite coal, petroleum coke, metallurgical coke, and graphite for such qualities as ash content, particle size, uniformity, density, carbon content, sulfur content, moisture, electrical resistance, volatile matter and pH determination.
4. Accurately tests samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications. Required to collect samples from plant facilities and prepare samples through any necessary steps such as drying, grinding, splitting, or micro milling.
5. May prepare graphs and charts for all phases of SPC and Statistical computer reporting or assist in periodic update of laboratory procedures. The position requires knowledge of Windows Based systems.
6. Records test results on a computer for daily report of findings.
7. Must be able to calculate basic mathematical computations.
8. Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment and surrounding areas.
9. Reviews daily production results to ensure product quality is being met. Assures all material produced is sampled and tested as required by quality procedures. Assures material to be shipped meets established specification requirements, reconciling any discrepancies. Assures nonconforming material is identified and properly labeled, communicated, and isolated.
