Are you a skilled project manager who enjoys working on big-picture initiatives and collaborating with passionate, mission-driven teams? BFAM-the Bureau of Fiscal Accountability and Management-within the Wisconsin Department of Health Services is looking for someone like you to join us as a Project Manager. This is a fully remote, long-term contract position through Spherion, and its a chance to work on some of the states most impactful healthcare and financial projects.
...
In this role, youll be part of BFAMs management group, contributing to leadership-level discussions and decisions without having formal supervisory responsibilities. Youll report directly to the bureau director, Dave, and work closely with your fellow project manager to support a portfolio of complex, high-profile initiatives-many of which involve state and federal funding, collaboration with school districts, and coordination with stakeholders ranging from IT teams to the Governors Office.
One of your key focuses will be on School-Based Services (SBS) projects, including a large-scale grant that supports over 429 school districts across Wisconsin. This grant runs for three years and involves both a funding process and a separate project track for implementation. Youll help coordinate moving parts, keep things on schedule, and ensure everyone knows what theyre responsible for. Projects might include topics like rate methodologies for school-based health clinics and even funding for mobile dental clinics.
Youll also take on other high-visibility projects that impact Medicaid finances and budget strategies. These projects often involve a mix of internal and external stakeholders, including federal and state government representatives, making strong communication and collaboration skills essential. You should be comfortable translating complex financial or project information into presentations and updates that make sense to all types of audiences?from technical teams to non-technical leaders.
This position is a great fit for someone who can lead without direct authority-someone who builds trust easily, brings structure to complex situations, and knows how to keep a diverse team moving in sync. While a background in finance is helpful, whats most important is that you bring a strong understanding of project management principles, confidence in managing risk, and a knack for bringing clarity and momentum to big initiatives.
To thrive in this role, you should have excellent time management skills, strong written and verbal communication abilities, and experience working at multiple levels of an organization. A PMP certification or other professional project management credential is required. Its also a plus if you have experience in healthcare, have worked on large-scale projects ($5 million or more), or are familiar with state or federal government work. Familiarity with collaboration tools like Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Salesforce, or Canva is a bonus.
This role is fully remote and is expected to continue long term. Youll be supported by both BFAM and Spherion and given the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that truly impact peoples lives. If youre ready to step into a visible, rewarding leadership role and help shape the future of Medicaid financial operations in Wisconsin, we would love to hear from you!
